Q&A
How did you get into the sport?
My eldest brother Steven practiced judo. As a little girl I always went with my father to watch the training. I couldn't wait to get on the mat myself, and at 5 years of age I was finally allowed to do so.
What does an average week look like for you?
I live in Heeswijk-Dinther but on weekdays I'm mainly in Arnhem for my (judo) training sessions. Apart from my judo career I study in Tilburg for social studies teacher. Usually I spend about 20 weeks a year abroad for training camps or competitions. Most of the times we go to Asia, preferably Japan.
How often do you train per week, how many hours and what does your training schedule look like?
I do about 12 training sessions a week.
From Monday till Friday I train 2-3 times a day at Papendal (Arnhem), in the morning this is a strength or condition training. Sometimes combined with a technique training.
In the evening we have competition training where we play some matches. In the weekend I often do a recovery training (running/yoga/swimming) and a CrossFit training for fun.
What are your goals/ambitions in life, both personal and sporting?
Sport-wise, there are two more medals I would like to win; gold at the World Championships and gold at the Olympic Games. I am also looking forward to my social career, after judo.
As a social studies teacher I would like to contribute to counter polarization in the Netherlands.
Sport will always play a role in my life; I would like to use sport for social purposes. For example free sports lessons for underprivileged youth.
Why did you choose for RXDGear?
I came into contact with RXDGear through my CrossFit gym. The materials are of high quality and the brand radiates that. I love lifting weights and with the gear from RXD I don't have to worry when dropping my weights when I'm reaching my maximum.
